From January 27th to February 8th, 2026 I participated in the first artist residency at Eptek Centre in Summerside, PEI, Canada.
This was an exciting opportunity to follow up on some of the things that I had been experimenting with at the Kvitbrakka residency in Berlavag , Norway in September, 2025. I explored more with dyeing kelp, plaiting kelp over a form, and knitting and netting kelp.
I also worked on some baskets constructed with discarded plastic strapping with kelp stipes/stems added as handles. I had always kept my discarded plastics and my kelp work separate. They are so different in feel, smell, manipulability, and emotional response. But they DO have a story to tell together. The production of plastic is one of the drivers of climate change and climate change is a major factor in the destruction of kelp forests globally.
This residency was made possible by arts grant from the Innovation PEI.
