handknit cotton encrusted with sand
In the early 1990s I developed a technique to encrust knitted cotton with sand . These pieces are not waterproof and they don’t break. I have continued to explore with the forms and surface textures I can create with this technique.
Beaches often have wonderful patterns created by the moving waters at the edge. These ripples tell the story of that beach.
