2022
resealable plastic bags stuffed with wrappings and cross stitched together with strips of plastic bags or tape; plastic yogurt tub lids crossed stitched together with telephone wire.
The greenhouse effect is like a blanket of gases trapping the heat in close to Earth. Our dependency on plastics has resulted in this protective quilt making Earth too warm.
Patchwork quilts hold the stories of the used materials from which they are made. When the stitcher’s time is precious, they are constructed as efficiently as possible so they can be quickly put to use.
We are surrounded by plastic packaging, much of it destined for landfills rather than being recycled. For 2022 I stuffed the single-use wrappings from my single-person household into my collection of resealable bags and stitched them together with strips of single use plastic bags or tape. I also raided my collection of plastic lids and cross stitched them together with discarded telephone wire.
